High Voltage Disconnect
A high voltage disconnect is a safety feature that is found in many solar and electrical systems and is used to prevent high-voltage electricity from flowing to a building or utility line. It enables firefighters, utility workers, or maintenance crews to do equipment servicing or respond to an emergency without the danger of electric shock. Solar installations usually install it between the inverter and the main service panel or utility meter. This isolation is a means to ensure compliance with electrical codes and a simple, manual means of high-voltage circuit isolation when deemed appropriate.
