Comprehensive Equipment Coverage: Financing extends beyond solar to include battery storage and HVAC equipment

Tax Credit Optimization: Palmetto LightReach’s financing structure maximizes available tax incentives

“Enact’s accurate financial projections combined with our flexible financing solutions creates a powerful combination for the solar industry,” said Kristen Crupi, Director of Channel Solutions at LightReach. “This integration eliminates friction in the sales process while ensuring customers receive the most accurate and comprehensive financing information.”

The partnership addresses a critical need in the solar industry, where complex financing options can slow down sales cycles and create uncertainty for both installers and customers. By integrating Palmetto LightReach’s billion-dollar financing platform directly into Enact’s widely used solar software, the companies are removing barriers to solar adoption while improving the overall customer experience.

The integration supports the broader industry trend toward comprehensive energy solutions, with financing that covers not just solar panels but complete home energy systems including battery storage and efficient heating and cooling equipment.

PLEASANTON, CALIF. – May 1, 2025 – Enact Solar, the award-winning intelligent software platform revolutionizing the way solar and energy storage projects are planned, has announced a strategic partnership with Renusol, a high- performance, state of the art solar PV mounting solutions company. Renusol first started in the German market and has been a major player for more than 25 years globally. More than 6 GWp solar systems with Renusol mounting systems have been installed in 48 countries.

Enact design software users will now have the ability to access Renusol’s detailed bill of materials (BOM) directly through the Enact Design Software – eliminating the need to recreate projects in Renusol’s PV Configurator. This integration delivers two key benefits, accelerating proposal and contract pricing with instant and accurate bill of materials and minimizing errors for operations teams during post contract signing. With a one click BOM access through Enact, users gain a more efficient, error free workflow when utilizing Renusol components.

Installers who currently use other design solutions with Renusol’s PV Configurator face many challenges. They must manage a disconnected workflow, creating many operational inefficiencies. Frequently, the sales team members who sell the project are different from those who place the orders on Renusol’s Configurator. When project designs change at the last minute or after the agreement is signed, managing those changes becomes cumbersome. Each design adjustment impacts the Renusol parts ordered, which in turn affects pricing, margins, and delivery timelines.

“The Enact-Renusol integration partnership represents a game-changing advancement for the solar industry. By streamlining the project change management cycle, this partnership will deliver immediate value to both Enact and Renusol users in all markets. More importantly, it addresses a critical pain point in our industry, the disconnect between sales and operations teams. Solar companies will see significant cost savings by eliminating design and ordering errors, increase operational efficiency and keep customers satisfied,” said Manasij Kar, Head of Product and Co-Founder of Enact Solar.

“Renusol has been committed to providing simple, secure, and comprehensive solutions specializing in PV mounting systems for the past several decades. Our partnership with Enact Solar further proves our commitment to innovation and collaboration across the solar market. It gives Enact Users the possibility to receive a full state of the art static calculation for the mounting system and to achieve thereby the necessary reliability and stability of the PV System for the designated life time. The integration of the Enact Solar Design software with our PV configurator is exactly the kind of innovation our industry needs to scale efficiently in a cost-effective manner,” said Marko Balen, Head of Business Development of Renusol.

The business of deploying Solar & Storage projects for homes and buildings has a complex value chain that starts with OEMs and their distribution networks, followed by solar installation companies (also known as ‘EPC’ firms: engineering, procurement and construction), third-party financing firms and asset management.

As shown below, this value chain is fragmented with thousands of firms that work together to deliver ~300-500k residential projects per year and ~10k commercial projects per year in the US market. Also shown below is the consumer’s extended influencer and marketing network that plays a significant role in their buying decision; plus the authorities that grant approval for such projects – cities, AHJs & utilities that provide net metering access. And finally, various other providers of business services like software, third-party marketing and legal services play a major role as well.

Behind every successfully completed project, there are ~20 different companies involved : 10+ different manufacturers of various components, at least one distributor for key hardware supply, 3-5 different firms that complete the EPC role (including permit engineering, outsourced labor crews and third-party marketing firms), at least one consumer financing company (80% of projects are financed), at least 2 authorities granting approval along with one maintenance provider and one or more software vendors.

Needless to say, it’s a complex industry like many others that delivers $Billions of dollars in product/services per year to building owners. Partnerships between firms happen at every step of the value chain: OEMs partner with distributors downstream, similarly distributors partner with EPCs downstream and EPCs in-turn partner with a host of business service providers like financing companies, permit engineering firms, marketing platforms and also maintenance providers.

Why are partnerships so crucial for success in this industry? There are four key reasons:

Reduce customer acquisition cost: partnerships along the value chain help every firm reduce its own customer acquisition cost. E.g. for an OEM, it is difficult to find and serve every EPC in every city / state on their own in a profitable way and so partnerships with regional distribution companies is crucial to gain EPC customer access.

Similarly, for an EPC, it’s crucial to partner with marketing platforms that help find end-clients through a variety of online marketing services, either online and offline. In the US market, soft costs reign high and project margins are slim, hence keeping customer acquisition cost low is crucial for success.

Efficient Scale-up of operations: relying on out-sourced third-party firms for specific services like financing of projects, or even repair and maintenance helps build scale faster. While many firms often grow to internalize certain functions (e.g. EPC launching a fund in-house, or even developing in-house software tools), the most successful firms identify their core competence quickly and rely on the best partners to do the rest, for faster growth. The business rules around solar and storage permitting, financing and even utility pricing / incentives vary from one city/state to another – hence partnering with software platforms that can simplify design and sales of new projects can help EPCs grow faster.

Improve business focus: for every firm in the value chain, it’s crucial to lock the core-competence internally. Whether it’s a financing firm or a maintenance provider, they must identify the one thing they are good at, and improve that over time with focus across the organization. Partnerships allow this to happen faster – firms that quickly find their core focus, and partner with others to achieve the rest of the integrated value offering downstream do better in the long run. It’s the classic ‘build vs buy’ choice, and the most successful firms find out quickly that the ROI is poor to ‘build’ everything in house.

Data-access for Reliable Asset Operations: partnerships across the value chain help improve the quality of data access for improved maintenance too. For example, a hardware OEM like a battery-inverter maker provides live data on its performance hourly / daily on open networks and this helps EPCs / maintenance firms react to issues quickly, which in turn helps reduce warranty costs and improves customer satisfaction.

Solar and storage assets provide long-term value by fixing the energy cost, and break-even over 3 to 7 years depending on the location, while operating for 25+ years of warranty. The industry is yet to mature and EPCs being fragmented often go-out of business. The customer’s Asset reliability is important: and having only ONE firm stand behind their system can be risky: unlike the car industry, where OEMs have reliable & powerful dealer networks whereby the customer can purchase and service their cars from one OEM / dealer, Solar / storage assets are equally expensive, yet there are no such OEM / dealer networks. Hence it’s crucial for consumers to have access to data for their project(s) at one place. Software platforms like Enact have the unique ability to enable such partnerships.

New Capability Tackles Key Challenges for Installers, Comprehensive Monitoring of Installations, Solar-Storage Integration, and Proactive System Servicing With AI Insights

PLEASANTON, CALIF. — Enact Solar, the award-winning intelligent digital platform revolutionizing the way solar and energy storage projects are planned, has expanded its Asset Management Platform with AI-driven insights for residential and commercial solar companies, as well as their fleets of customers. This innovation is designed to address key challenges faced by solar installation companies, including siloed design and monitoring data, growing complexity of solar-plus-storage systems and the increase in orphaned systems.

Drawing on insights from its latest white paper, The Future of Residential Solar & Storage Asset Management, Enact’s research highlights the challenges faced by small to mid-sized installation companies. Current monitoring systems often leave installers juggling multiple platforms, reactive service workflows and complex troubleshooting processes.

Unlike other platforms, Enact is the first-of-its-kind software platform for the solar industry where design-proposal data is housed on the same platform as monitoring data for outcomes, unlocking powerful opportunities for AI-enabled learning and automation. AI-driven tools handle routine inquiries, optimize system performance and generate financial reports to track ROI and savings, with consumer-facing chat support and alerts.

“Our platform transforms how installers proactively manage solar-and-storage assets, enabling faster troubleshooting, better customer service, and greater operational efficiency. This drives happy clients and therefore more referrals for the business, ultimately driving faster growth,” said Deep Chakraborty, CEO of Enact Solar.

Enact’s solution also tackles emerging challenges like the rise of solar-plus-storage systems and an increasing number of orphaned systems resulting from bankrupt solar companies. By equipping installers with tools to efficiently service these systems, the platform helps businesses thrive in a competitive market.

“Enact’s Asset Management Platform is a game-changer – I can manage my client issues more proactively. Also the Consumer App monetizes Referrals on our brand,” said Mike Thompson, CEO of Golden Bear Solar Inc.

SAN FRANCISCO May 22, 2024 — Award-winning solar software platform, Enact Solar has published its 2023 U.S. Solar and Storage Market Intelligence Report today, offering an overview of the solar energy landscape in the United States. With California’s transition to NEM 3.0, the report highlights an improving return on investment for solar and storage investments, bolstered by declining hardware prices and increasing utility rates. Enact customers are seeing a shorter payback period now, around 5.5 years, when compared to around 7.6 years under NEM 2.0.

This comprehensive report provides invaluable insights into the trends, challenges and advancements shaping the American solar and storage market, underlining the pivotal role of Enact’s innovative platform in the clean energy transition. The 2023 report found the Enact platform has proposed over $996 million worth of projects in the U.S. and over $12.8 billion globally, as of December. 31, 2023. The platform has monitored over 110 megawatts of systems.

“The 2023 report indicates that the U.S. residential consumer’s transition to solar and storage has become increasingly complex, with a growing number of brand choices, complex NEM rates, and widely varying installer service levels,” said Deep Chakraborty, Enact CEO. “However, as energy consumption patterns rise and solar/storage hardware prices decline, the consumer’s ROI is steadily improving.”

Highlighted within the report is the notable proliferation of energy storage options, with an over 100% increase in the number of brands proposed on the Enact platform between 2022 and 2023. This surge in options creates heightened complexity for both consumers and installers, emphasizing the need for trusted sources in the industry.

The Enact report underscores the escalating spread in pricing across brands, including in residential sales with storage paired with solar. The average pricing for solar-plus-storage systems was around $3.60/Watt and peak pricing around $5.85/W for residential projects. There was a wide range in residential pricing for solar-only systems, with average pricing at $3.33/W and peak pricing at $5.12/W.

The report compared the average consumer pre-project energy consumption with electric bill values for customers. Enact found a 5% increase in the median bill and a 37.72% higher pre-solar consumption for customers seeking solar and/or storage options in 2023, when compared to 2022. Increasing consumption — along with increasing utility costs and climate change — have increased demand for solar solutions.

The Enact Platform evaluation revealed a significant variance in service levels among installers, emphasizing the critical need for reliable data and guidance in the selection process. As consumers navigate the complexities of transitioning to solar and storage solutions, Enact remains steadfast in its commitment to providing trusted advice and facilitating seamless experiences through its innovative platform.
